February 2017 Report

 

During February the NCC team participated with a poster to the International Conference on Radar Aeroecology organized in Rome 23-24/2 by ENRAM. The poster presented the Falco eleonora’s movements over Theotokos colony, recorded by the radar surveillance. Another poster abstract has been submitted for the international conference on alien species, to be organized at UK in summer. Furthermore the preparation of the after life plan and relevant activities are taking place, as well as the final stage of the external scientific evaluation of the project habitat interventions and their impact on target species, which is carried out by Dr stavros Xirouchakis, as part of action E2.

HOS organized the IBA Caretakers Seminar in Gavrio, Andros. The seminar gave special emphasis on marine areas, giving the participants the chance to learn about field techniques used to monitor marine bird species. A total of 16 volunteers participated in the seminar. HOS also participated in the monitoring visit carried out by NEEMO.

Finally, it has been a busy month at Korthi Exhibition Center, as after the monitoting visit several students with their teachers were informed of the project, its progress and the importance of the SPA of Andros.
